1)The deadliest forest fires in U.S. history occurred near Peshtigo, Wisconsin in 1871. All 800 of the town's buildings were destroyed and 1,200 people burned to death. Many fled to the river, only to choke on gas or literally explode in the heat. Surviving artifacts of the blaze could fit in a lunch box. Why was little notice made of this disaster?
